Sweet Hammam,
Sweet Hammam,
One of the best feelings you can ever have in Tunisia: “The Warmth of a Hammam” or “Mediterranean Bath”.
Well, for those who does not know what the Hammam is? It’s very easy.
The Turkish Hammam (also Turkish bath or Hammam) is the Turkish variant of a steam bath, which can be categorized as a wet relative of the sauna. They had played an important role in Ottoman culture, serving as places of social gathering, ritual cleansing and as architectural structures, institutions, and (later) elements with special customs attached to them.
The whole system is adopted and very common in Tunisia.
Now this is how it works for me?
- At the beginning the hot room feels very disgusting; it smells and doesn’t look good at all.
- Once the steam starts caressing you and you feel the warmth coming up to your face you forget about all the guys around you.
- Then you start scratching yourself at the warm room and wondering: where the hell is this dirt coming from???
- You get rude of all the bad dead skin you have and you start scratching your live skin until it becomes red.
- You feel so excited when you start splashing water over and over in the small cleaning room (enjoying your soft and clean new skin).
- Then you get out of to the rest area where you relax and dream of so many good things BUT you have to keep your eyes closed to enjoy your dream.
- At the end someone light up a cigarette beside you and you feel like to run away from that place for ever.
- Few weeks later you go back there for the best ritual you could offer to you body.
I feel clean, light and full of energy.
